The news editors decide what to
broadcast on television and what to print in newspapers. However, there are
more bad news than good news. The reasons for delivering more bad news than
good news could be that bad news sell better, keeping up with trends or maybe
people are not interested in good news.
There is no doubt that bad news sell
better than good news. This could be because the bad news are more exciting, they
have details that intrigue, they raise a lot of questions and we always can
find somebody or something to put the blame on. For example news about a school
on fire sell better than news about the inauguration of a new school and a
divorce in showbiz sells better than a new marriage in showbiz. Moreover, the
news about terrorism could sell millions of newspapers.
The news editors like to keep up
with the trends and the today's trends are broadcasting and printing more bad
news than good news. I don't think the trend was ever different but I hope the
trends will change as people's mentality changes.
Another reason for delivering more
bad news than good news can be the fact that the majority of people are not
interested in good news. People are facing lots of problems in their everyday
life and they are not completely satisfied in their life. Therefore people are predisposed
to pessimism and negative thinking. Also, seeing other people facing problems,
often bigger than their own problems, gives them a feeling of consolation.
I think we did become used with bad
news, and moreover we started to enjoy them. There are only a very few people
who choose not to watch bad news. I think bad news produce dependence and
influence people to think negatively. It would definitely be better if more
good news was reported.
