Queen Elizabeth II visited the city of Perth

         Queen Elizabeth II visited the city of Perth on 6^th of July 2012. It was the last day of Her Majesty Diamond Jubilee celebrations in Scotland. There were thousands of people cheering and waving flags while the pipers wearing kilts played Scottish traditional songs. Following two horses the Queen Elizabeth II and her husband Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh came down from a black car at Viewpoint overlooking the River Tay. The queen wore buttermilk colored coat, white gloves and hat matching the coat.

         As part of the celebration, the Queen received the key of the Perth City and to the Duke of Edinburgh was given the Freedom of the City.  The Queen said that she has many happy memories of previous visits to Perth, including the opening of the Queens Bridge in 1960 and more recently the opening of Perth Concert Hall. She warmly congratulated the residents of Perth for the restoration of city status and expressed to all the present people, Prince Philip’s and hers, very best wishes for the future and their thanks for welcoming them warmly.

           The speech was followed by a performance of National Youth Pipe Band of Scotland. Another day’s events included a visit to the Black Watch Museum at Balhousie Castle, Perth College, University of the Highlands and Islands and lunch at Scone Palace. 
         Queen Elizabeth II (Elizabeth Alexandra Mary) was born on 21^st of April 1926 and reigns since 6 February 1952 until present. She is the queen of 137 million people and the constitutional monarch of United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, Australia, New Zeeland, Canada and another 11 sovereign states, members of the Commonwealth realms.

        This summer Queen Elisabeth II celebrates 60 years of reign. The Diamond Jubilee is a very rare and special occasion for the British nation and the Commonwealth, because only one other British monarch in history has reigned for 60 years or more. It is celebrated by holding many events, concerts and exhibitions, organizing charities, projects and visits. Besides, a special 5 pounds coin was struck. It is the first coin ever issued to commemorate a jubilee.

        The Queen Elisabeth’s visit in Perth was part of the Diamond Jubilee Celebration in Scotland. It was an honor and many people were happy taking part at the event.
